About Us
This year, the Solar Flight Division is aiming for our very first test flight! We’ll be working to get our prototype model, Figgle, off the ground to trial essential systems before moving on to the full UAV. By the end of the year, we also hope to begin the production of our main UAV.
For new students, this is a great opportunity to:
· Build hands-on skills in manufacturing and assembly
· Learn the theory of how a winged UAV flies
· Understand the electronics and how they are connected
· Gain experience with useful software, such as SolidWorks (CAD)
If you are interested in things that fly, RC vehicles or just want to boost your creative skills, this is the division for you.
Hope to see you soon!
I’m George Scurr, a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student and the Solar Flight Division Lead for this year. Outside of engineering, I enjoy singing in two of our great university choirs, running on the common, and watching football and Formula 1 at the pub!
My main goal this year is to build a strong team spirit within the division - creating an environment where no one feels left out and everyone feels comfortable reaching out to each other.
If you have any questions about the division, feel free to email me at gs11g23@soton.ac.uk.
